Destination Ogden

Ogden, Utah, is a busy town north of Salt Lake City. Historically, Ogden was a major player in the development of the Transcontinental Railroad. Ogden's Golden Spike monument commemorates the beginning of the end of the American frontier: the connection of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads. Today, Ogden's visitors enjoy downhill skiing at resorts Snowbasin (an Olympic venue) and at Powder Mountain.

Wolf Mountain

Mtn. Bike

Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve
Keep your feet dry yet still experience great bird and wildlife watching around the Great Salt Lake wetlands. Designed to emphasize the Lake's ecological importance—particularly for millions of birds, the preserve includes a Visitors Center, a boardwalk trail through prime bird-watching habitat, and stunning vistas from a 30-foot-high tower.

Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge
This is one of the best birding spots in the region. A wide variety of migratory birds stop here, and the refuge also boasts an interesting assortment of resident birds and animals. If you are a bird watcher, this is a must-see!

Hill Aerospace Museum

Great Salt Lake
This remnant of former Lake Bonneville, the Great Salt Lake covers over 2,000 square miles and is several times saltier than the ocean, and is a popular sailing and bird watching destination. It can be accessed from Antelope Island State Park (801-773-2941) and from the Great Salt Lake Marina South Shore State Park (801- 250-1898).

Historic 25th Street
Turn-of-the-century historic district has antique and boutique shops, cafes and pubs.

Historic Union Station
Celebrate the growth of America at Historic Union Station. No longer in operation as a train depot, the station is home today to four museums, an art gallery, library, and model railroad display. 801-629-8446

Pioneer Days (July)
This annual commemoration of the settlement of the state is celebrated throughout the city with outdoor western concerts, Ogden Street Festival, craft fairs, a children's parade and vintage car show. Annual festival offering birding trips, workshops, lectures and educational booths.

Ogden Valley Balloon Festival (August)
Held the third weekend of August at Wolf Creek Resort in Eden. Also features events throughout the Ogden Valley such as arts exhibits, Plein Aire competitions, crafts and live entertainment.
