Uinta Wasatch Cache National Forest

The majestic peaks and rugged backcountry of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest lie within easy reach of one of the west's fastest growing metropolitan areas. Encompassing nearly 2.1 million ecologically diverse acres, including seven wilderness areas. The forest is one of the most frequently visited in the nation.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Uinta and Wasatch-Cache National Forests have been combined and are now being managed as the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.

From skiing in world-renown powder to cruising the scenic highways or picnicking on a lazy afternoon, Uinta-Wasatch-Cache has just about something for everyone.

The Forest is divided up into districts that spread across north-central Utah and a small slice of southwest Wyoming. Each district is unique and often reflects the character of nearby communities -- from the heavily visited Tri-Canyons of the Salt Lake Ranger District to the rugged Mountain View District, the remote northern gateway to Kings Peak (13,584'), the highest point in Utah.

Districts typically manage recreation facilities and activities, handle special permits, and sponsor interpretive education programs. Stop by a district office or visitor center to load up on maps, get acquainted with recreation opportunities, check on current conditions, and learn more about how to keep the Forest healthy.
