Park City Arts

The hills are alive with art, scenery and sound, especially during Park City's annual ARTSTRAVAGANZA celebration held during the month of August. Treat all of your senses, and enjoy a full range of arts, entertainment and performances.

ARTSTRAVAGANZA becomes more exciting every year. In 2007, the Kimball Art Center kicked off the month with their 38th annual Kimball Arts Festival, featuring an opening night Art Gala and auction. Over 200 regional, national and international artists participated in this event. During ARTSTRAVAGANZA, 30 bands performed on stages and in pocket parks along Main St., and art aficionados gathered at wine and beer gardens and food booths.

All year long, the Kimball Art Center and the Park City Jazz Foundation team up for the "Last Fridays Arts & Eats Gallery Stroll." Strollers start their evening at the Kimball, and for five dollars, are treated to live jazz, appetizers, wine, beer and other refreshments, before zig-zagging around town to over 25 galleries.

Also every August, the Utah Symphony & Opera and Deer Valley Resort present the Deer Valley Music Festival, a month-long menu of music at a spectacular outdoor amphitheater at Snow Park Lodge. Tony Bennett, Bravo Broadway and the 1812 Overture are favorites.

Mountain Town Stages promotes local musicians, scheduling free summer outdoor concerts at five stages all over town. Every Wednesday night, Wells Fargo and the Park City Performing Arts Foundation host a free locals' concert at Deer Valley's outdoor amphitheater. The Canyons Resort also gets into the act with free concerts every Saturday in the forum.

At 20 years, the Park City International Music Festival is Utah's longest running classical chamber music festival. Performances are held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Park City Community Church and other venues.

The Fidelity Investments Jazz Festival occurs in mid-August and fills the air with cutting-edge jazz and old favorites. Artists also participate in clinics held at nearby schools. David Sanborn, India Aerie and Tower of Power are just some of the talented groups that have graced the stage.

The Park City Performing Arts Foundation's Big Stars Bright Nights series brings internationally acclaimed performers to Deer Valley's outdoor stage throughout the summer. A partial line-up includes Joss Stone, Lyle Lovett, and Pink Martini. In the winter, the curtain goes up at the George & Delores Eccles Center at the Park City High School.

Every Friday night in July and August, see "stars under the stars" when the Sundance Institute presents free summer films in City Park. While the Sundance Film Festival occurs only once a year in January, the Park City Film Series screens independent and foreign films every weekend starting in the fall at the Jim Santy Auditorium in the Park City Library.
