Zion National Park Camping

You've never seen night skies like this.

How to Camp in Zion:

What comes to mind when you think about camping? Just you, a tent, and a Jet Boiler stove out in the lone wilderness? A community of other nature-loving/park-hopping/wanderlusty neighbors? Or how about a campground with grills, flushing toilets and electrical sites where you can plug in and have all the modern comforts of the 21st century thanks to that hugemongous RV you saved an entire life for and finally bought and now you’re going to use it for the rest of your gosh-darn life by going to every single national park--all 400+?

However you like to camp, Zion will let you have it. There’s campgrounds for tents and RVs as well as backcountry camping for those of you who want to get into the nitty-gritty of the wilderhood.

ZION BACKCOUNTRY CAMPING

If you prefer to get away from the crowds during the busy season (April - September), you might want to hike deep into the park and carry camp along in your brand new backpacking pack you bought with intentions to travel to Europe, but then you realized Zion was calling your name. There are quite a few great trails that require at least an overnight stay. PERMITS ARE REQUIRED FOR OVERNIGHT HIKING. Here’s some of our favorites:

West Rim Trail - 9 Campsites along the trail.
Chinle Trail - Hot, hot, hot during the summer. Go in the fall/winter.
Orderville Canyon - Canyoneering heaven. You’ll need gear and some experience. Deertrap Mountain + Cable Mountain - Solitude for all, no designated camping spots.
