Go Spring Skiing in Park City

The daffodils may be smiling at the doves in the valleys, but up in the mountains, powderhounds continue to shred. Spring in Utah still has a gazillion resort groomers and terrain parks for the half-pipe show offs. OK, you caught us, we’re just jealous that we’re only meh at the butters and grabs.

We Three Kings of Park City Are

Bombing blue squares and securing lift bars. Biffs and loungin’, up on the mountain, comparing our best sitzmarks.

If you need some spring break vacation ideas, spring ski dates or spring events in Utah, look no further than the royal three of Park City. It’s the place to be in case there's an epic snow dump around Easter. It’s also the place to be when it’s warm enough to take buttery turns in tees. Either way, it’s time to stuff your ski pants (or shorts) pockets with Cadbury Eggs and enjoy spring skiing in Utah.

Oh, Deer (Valley)

In 2021, Deer Valley Resort was voted number-one ski resort in the U.S. of A. with 2,000 acres of skiable terrain and an average 300 inches of snowfall per season. That’s some freedom to romp, roam and rip downhill late into the season, innit? It’s also ski-only, so be mindful of that when booking a trip.

The 2002 Olympic slalom and freestyle skiing competitions were held at Deer Valley, because yowza, it’s got epic terrain. If your skills are more akin to an all-day pizza buffet, you may not get gold, silver or bronze, but you’ll still get a participation trophy. Take the whole fam and sign up for group or one-on-one ski lessons, telemark skiing lessons or heck, book a former Olympian as a resort mountain guide.

The Myth, the Legend: Park City Mountain

Gird your bibs for this one! Park City Mountain is the biggest ski resort in the states at 7,300 acres, with over 330 trails and six terrain parks. There are runs fit for beginners or experts and you can hop on Park City’s historic Main Street town lift, making it super easy to get first tracks on bluebird days.

This resort is truly a park rat’s dream. Combust your quads on boxes, jumps and rails. Test out the mini halfpipe or go for the gold on the Eagle Superpipe. Take group or private ski lessons, go on the Silver to Slopes Historic Mining Tour then linger in the evenings for dinner and music.

Tubular Parties at Woodward Park City

Woodward Park City is basically a mini ski area with 125 acres of freestyle fun, perfect for chitlins ready to blossom into their sports park era. With year-round access, it’s a great spring break vacation idea. The indoor facilities include scooter, skate and bike tracks with foam pits to catch any falls. The outdoor mountain park is great for those learning to ski or practice their best snowboarding falling leaf.

Weeeeeeeee have to tell you the best part about the outdoor park, though. Tubing! Woodward Park City has the longest sledding lanes in Utah, so if you’ve got a hankering for speed, give those leggies a rest and giggle your way downhill. You don’t even have to hike back up, what with the magic carpets doing the work! Hold hands with your lover on the way down, or even better, race your kiddo to the bottom. But don’t bother pretending to let them win. Smoke ‘em.

Après and Such

Guess what? The party don’t actually stop after a full day of spring mountain skiing. There are numerous après-ski to-dos like outdoor concerts Utah locals and out-of-towners love. Park City Mountain has its Spring Concert Series on Saturdays through closing day. Enjoy live music and shot-skis at Deer Valley’s Brews and Tunes through early April.

Don’t worry, we didn’t forget that you must be starving after all that mountain fun! The Après at the Airstream located at the Canyons Village has snacks and drinks. Park City Main Street has fancy mountain cuisine, pubs and other sundries. From there you can peruse art galleries and clothing shops or attend some fun springtime events like arts and craft nights.

Excitement is contagious with group events like Women’s Weekend or the Spring Gruv. The annual Pond Skimming competition at Park City Mountain is a sight to behold as skiers in peculiar outfits attempt to cross a 100-foot pond. Keep your eyes peeled for Park City Mountain’s Clown Day (Gaper Day) tradition, where you dress yourself silly. Fancy or retro style is encouraged. And hey, and if you’re goofy, you’re gold!

There you have it, you can enjoy winter well into the spring in Utah. We assume you’ll have powder fever long after those early winter storms, anyways. So never call last run, never lose stoke and never stop boogying up to the mountains of Park City.
