City Creek Center
/>The City Creek Center is a new mixed-use development in downtown Salt Lake City. It includes a major shopping mall with more than 90 retail stores and restaurants. The development also offers professional offices and private residences.
Nordstrom and Macy's stores anchor the retail mall. The mall is built on both sides of City Creek and includes beautiful gardens, waterfalls, walkways and a sky bridge. An innovative retractable glass roof covers the mall during incumbent weather.
Historically, City Creek provided water for culinary use and irrigation and was a major asset for pioneers who settled the Salt Lake area. As the city grew, the stream was channeled and eventually piped underground through the downtown area. Now, City Creek has been restored, brought back to the surface, where it is again a beautiful resource.
The new development cost some $1.5 billion and is one of the largest mixed-use projects ever constructed in the United States. It is located across the street from historic Temple Square. It has already proven to be very popular with area residents and is becoming a big attraction for people visiting the city. It has brought strong economic support to downtown Salt Lake, ensuring that the center of the city will remain a vital and attractive.
The retail center is managed by Taubman Centers, Inc., a large and professional retail management firm. Highlights of the City Creek Center include:
