It Is Ski Time In Utah
Thanksgiving weekend marks the traditional opening of the Utah ski and snowboard season, but this year we jumped off to an early start with several resorts opening in mid-November.
Right now we are experiencing a spell of mild weather, which makes it possible to enjoy a wide range of activities. Temperatures are crisp up at the resorts but very pleasant down in the valleys. You can ski all morning and golf all afternoon, with just a short drive in between. Southern Utah is having near-record warm temperatures - hiking and biking conditions are superb in our national park country.
Storms in early November put down enough snow to get some lifts running, and resorts are making supplemental snow as needed to insure quality skiing. Ski conditions should get better and better as the season progresses.
Mid-December is usually a great time to ski in Utah. By then the base is usually deep, storms are dropping new powder every few days, and the slopes are not yet crowded. Many ski-area lodging properties offer discounted rates during this period.

The Christmas through New Years holiday season is always merry at Utah's resorts. Ski conditions are usually excellent and the slopes bustle with activity. Santa and Mrs Clause can often be seen cutting a few turns before heading to their workshop. There is a festive atmosphere with music and many special events.
Slope-side lodging books up fast for the holiday season - it may already be too late to find something located right at the resorts. But plenty of rooms are available in the nearby communities, just a short rental car or ski bus ride away.
The Sundance Film Festival brings Hollywood to Park City during mid-January. Park City area resorts are crowded, celebrities are often sighted around town and lodging is booked solid.
If you want to ski during the holidays or during Sundance, and you haven't already made reservations, you better book immediately.
Other winter adventures get underway in mid-December and are popular during the Christmas season. They include lift-served tubing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, guided or unguided snowmobile treks, ice skating and cross-country skiing.
Ready or not, the snow is coming at us. Storms can make city life miserable, bringing cold temperatures, traffic congestion and sloppy conditions. Why fight it - embrace the snow and enjoy winter adventure.
Snow falls silently over our mountain chalets, bringing idyllic beauty to our alpine forests. There is nothing more fun than making that first run through virgin powder, skiing hard all day, and then relaxing by a fire, in an outdoor hot tub, or at a quaint restaurant or pub.
Let us help you plan a Utah ski vacation.
