Of the Earth - New works by Ron Russon and Jared Davis
Mar 21 - Mar 21
New paintings by local favorite Ron Russon will be displayed, along with a new series of blown glass sculptures by Colorado-based Jared Davis. Ron Russon was born and raised in a rural area outside of Salt Lake City. He was surrounded by the Wasatch Mountains, many farms, and acres of cultivated ground. Raised in a family of five boys in an agrarian area, work was taught and expected. Creating art offered a balance to the difficult work of farm life. Listening to bluegrass, Ron paints in oil, employing a loose brush and pallet knife to varied wildlife scenes. Through both abstraction and realism, his art reflects his relationship with nature and his communication with the outdoors. Jared Davis was born in New York City and raised in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado. He has spent the last 20 years working with blown glass, beginning at K Dahl Glass Studios. In 1995, Davis was introduced to Swedish glass masters. Prior to his trip to Sweden, in the winter of 1996, Davis studied Italian style glass blowing and glass sculpting at The Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, Washington. When working with blown glass, he is working with a molten material that follows a viscous path according to where it is hottest and coolest. By using his Fission technique, layering numerous colors and using a special crackle process, he has created a recognizable design, resulting in incredibly unique works of art. He is inspired by the vast beauty that surrounds his home in western Colorado.
