Westminster College presents a lecture “Don’t Get Mad, Get a Camera” by ErinDavies & The Fagbug on April 17, 2013 at 4 p.m. in Malouf Hall room 201.
Erin Davies’ Volkswagen Beetle was tagged with the words “fag” and “u r gay”on the driver’s side and hood of her car. Rather than get it fixed, sheembraced what happened by keeping the graffiti on her car for a year to evokea dialogue with the general public about homophobia. Not only did she wantAmerica to see the spray-painted words, she wanted help with a solution. Her58-day cross-country trip in the Fagbug led to an award-winning documentaryabout her adventure. After that year, Erin gave the car a makeover and she nowtours with her rainbow Volkswagen Beetle, speaking at colleges anduniversities across North America (including Yale and Cornell), to bring aboutawareness of hate crimes and to confront homophobia.
Recently, Erin completed her master’s degree in Art Education from Sage College and got married in Manchester, Vermont, to Sonya Parrish. Erin andSonya have sold more than 60 paintings they’ve made together over the pastthree years.
The lecture, sponsored by the Diversity Center at Westminster College, is free and open to the public.
