A trip through Cataract Canyon is an inspirational and exhilarating experience. This expansive stretch of the Colorado River begins just west of Moab, UT, and winds its way southwest through the heart of Canyonlands National Park to Lake Powell over the course of 112 miles. During your journey you will see ancient Puebloan (formerly known as Anasazi) ruins and petro glyphs, swim in the refreshing waters of the Colorado River, and experience thrilling rapids. This river rafting vacation is a vivid contrast between serene tranquility and all-out high adventure.
On the first segment of this adventure, we’ll follow the current through colorful cliffs, and astounding table top mesas. This is a time for relaxing and enjoying the stillness of the wilderness.
It is only once you’ve become accustomed to the calmness of the river, and the peaceful surroundings, that the Colorado River begins to drop, creating huge rapids that will have you whoopin’, hollerin’, and pretty darn wet. On night 2 you will camp just above the first rapid, “Brown Betty”. Over the course of days 3 and 4 the river boasts 23BIG rapids, including Ben Hurt, Mile Long, and the always exciting Big Drops. We drop 80 feet in less than 4 miles, one of the Colorado’s steepest descents.
