An Rogaire Dubh was founded by Joe Perry, who plays the uilleann pipes, a purely Irish instrument. It all started when Joe (who is also the Pipe Major for the Mt Timanogos Pipe Band) was playing his Irish pipes before the pipe band practice. Some of the pipers and others started showing up with fiddles, whistles, mandolins & bodhrans and started learning traditional Irish music. Now they perform throughout the valley at festivals, receptions, and other shows.
