Westminster Presents 'Making Private Problems Public Issues

As part of the 2012-2013 Bastian Foundation Diversity Lecture Series, Westminster hosts a lecture by Mary Romero entitled "Making Private Problems Public Issues: Revisioning a Social Justice Approach to Carework” on Sept. 13, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. in the Vieve Gore Concert Hall in the Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory.
Mary Romero is a professor in the School of Social Justice & Social Inquiry at Arizona State University. Romero’s lecture will serve as an opening to Hispanic Heritage Month at Westminster. Romero focuses on exploring the lives of immigrant domestic workers, class, privilege, the American Dream and intersections of identity, among others.
The theme of the 2012-2013 Bastian Foundation Diversity Lecture Series is “Academics as Activists.” Guest lecturers will be focusing on how academics have engaged in work/research that serves as a form of activism and/or how academic institutions or scholars influence or support activist movements.
This event is free and open to the public. The presentation will be followed by an audience question-answer session.
